Good Samaritan Society names two to top leadership positions

Two long-time staff members of The Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society have been tapped for key positions in a restructuring of top leadership within the organization.

Cindy Moegenburg, who has been with the Society for 37 years, has been named executive vice president and chief operating officer. Raye Nae Nylander, an 18-year staff member, has been appointed executive vice president and chief financial officer.

The changes recently were announced by Society President and Chief Executive Officer David J. Horazdovsky.

Nylander came to the Good Samaritan Society after the Society purchased properties from her employer at the time, the Good Neighbor Corp. As part of the transaction, the Society brought Good Neighbor executives into its fold. Nylander was among those who made the transition.

Moegenburg has been involved in long-term care since she was a teenager when she took her first job at a skilled nursing center in Bismarck, N.D. Among the positions Moegenburg has held with the Society are charge nurse, director of nursing, administrator, regional director and vice president for regional operations.

Moegenburg and Nylander say they are excited to serve the Good Samaritan Society in their new roles. Much of their work, they say, will involve finding and developing strategies to help the Society continue to grow and be sustainable into the future.

“As we look to the Society’s future, we know the decisions and steps we take are about God’s plan and God’s calling,” says Moegenburg. “It is because of His unconditional love for us, that we – as an organization – have a common call to serve others and share God’s love. While we may put programs and plans in place and find new ways to do our work, we are not in charge. Ultimately, it is God who is leading us today and into the future.”
