The Good Samaritan Society is pleased to announce the winners of its top awards for 2010. The awards honor two staff members and one volunteer who demonstrate the spirit of the Society’s mission of sharing God’s love in word and deed.

They include the Augusta Award, the Good Samaritan Society’s employee of the year honor; the CNA of the Year Award, which honors certified nursing assistants; and the Volunteer of the Year Award, which recognizes those who contribute their time and talents to the Good Samaritan Society.

Deb Jansen, the dietary manager at Good Samaritan Society – Canton in Canton, S.D., received the Augusta Award. A 25-year staff member, Deb has worked for the Good Samaritan Society since high school.

“Deb has always had the residents’ best interests at heart,” says Julie Marko, administrator at Good Samaritan Society – Canton. “She doesn’t just focus on food and dietary needs but also listens to residents and their family members.”

Patricia Schwartz, a staff member at Good Samaritan Society – Mott in Mott, N.D., was selected for the CNA of the Year Award. Patricia, who has worked at the center since 1978, was nominated from among the 7,000 CNAs at Society locations in 24 states.

Administrator Bruce Kallis says Patricia is committed to the residents she serves. Along with taking care of their physical needs, Patricia offers residents spiritual and emotional support of all kinds.

The Volunteer of the Year Award went to Wilma West, a 17-year volunteer at Good Samaritan Society – Albion in Albion, Neb. Residents say they appreciate Wilma’s willingness to listen to their stories, concerns and questions. They say their lives have been blessed by knowing her.

The three winners were recognized at a banquet held during the Good Samaritan Society’s Annual Meeting in Sioux Falls, S.D.
